2. We began our discussion on The Love-song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot
Homework:
Re-read the poem. Mark the repetition and make a comment on your copy of the poem regarding the possible use of it.
There are a few phrases that this poem repeats. In particular:
ReplyDeleteLet us go
Do I dare
Should I presume
I have known
In the room the women come and go Talking of Michelangelo
There will be time
Would it have been worth it
He also uses And - to begin lines around 20 times.
This repetition really serves to be a symbol of the repetition and monotony in Prufock's life. After all, the poem itself is meant to be an epic but it's really about a man talking about his life and his past, and all of the regrets he's had. His inability, or reluctance to act can also be portrayed through his repetition of these things.
Thanks for the comment, Albert. I just wanted you to make the annotations on your poem itself. I'll say "post a comment below" when I want you to post here. =)
